THE CHALLENGE
Design an electromechanical system for flow analysis in the Ciclope Wind Tunnel in Predappio. The main challenge was to develop a device capable of probing the entire cross-section of the airflow without significantly altering its behavior.
THE SOLUTION
The system was engineered using low-aerodynamic-resistance components and integrates both mechanical elements for motion and electrical components such as motors, encoders, and gear reducers.
It consists of two airfoil profiles:
- Longitudinal profile: translates along the tunnel via a lead screw.
- Rotating profile: mounted at the end of the first, with a probe at its tip to measure airflow characteristics.
This configuration allows comprehensive sampling of the airflow while minimizing disturbance to the flow itself.
RESULTS
- Positive Feedback from Clients and Stakeholders
Particularly regarding the motion system design. - Compliance with Technical and Regulatory Requirements
The system meets all specified engineering and safety standards. - Potential Efficiency Improvements
The motion system reduces airflow disturbance and optimizes operation, with final performance to be validated during testing.
